Sanfoin Hay Pellets

sainfoin hay pellets Wyoming

Grown in Wyoming's Bighorn Basin

The Bighorn Basin of northern Wyoming is one of the few regions in the United States where sainfoin genuinely thrives. High elevation, abundant sunshine, and mineral-rich soils produce sainfoin with exceptional condensed tannin levels and palatability.

Our pellets are grown and milled by Western Skies Hay in Powell, Wyoming — a family operation committed to single-ingredient, on-farm production with full traceability from field to bag.

What Is Sainfoin?

Known as "Holy Hay" Since the 13th Century

Sainfoin (Onobrychis viciifolia) is a flowering legume with an extraordinary nutritional profile. Unlike alfalfa, it is naturally non-bloating, low in sugar and starch, and rich in condensed tannins — a combination that makes it uniquely valuable for a wide range of animals and conditions.

What Makes It Different?

Highly Palatable

Animals voluntarily consume 20–30% more sainfoin than comparable forages. Less waste, better body condition, even in picky eaters.

Low Sugar & Starch

Naturally low in non-structural carbohydrates — safe for horses with metabolic syndrome, laminitis, Cushings, and similar conditions.

Natural Parasite Control

Anthelmintic properties help reduce worm burden naturally in cattle, sheep, and goats without relying solely on conventional chemical dewormers.

Non-Bloat

Condensed tannins prevent the foam formation that causes bloat. As little as 20% sainfoin in the diet reduces bloat risk to near zero.

High in Omega-3

Rich in natural anti-inflammatory omega-3s. Condensed tannins protect and enhance omega-3 transfer into milk fat — great for dairy operations.

100% Pure · No Additives
